What is unique to the solar screen shades is their sheer to semi-sheer materials which are generally made of fiberglass / polyester blends, a perfect material to protect furnishings of harmful UV rays while giving keeping a screened view out. The different subcategories in this product line are divided into openness factors, which describes "how sheer" the solar shade is. The higher the openness factor, the clearer the view out. In the window covering industry Solar Shade descriptions refer to an "openness factor". This translates into the amount of light that is allowed through, expressed as a percentage. A lower openness factor increases UV blockage, but the outside view will not be as clear. The higher openness factor creates a better view, but decreases UV blockage.
